Well, seeing as the internet keeps getting bigger, faster loading speeds probably help the google crawler index pages much faster, which might be a problem for them looking at the future.
No matter their intent, it's a great addition to the www.

Exactly. It does not matter what are Google intentions as we clearly see that it is good thing for our sites.
